Al Ghurair Iron & Steel L.L.C (AGIS), an AIMS/AMETEK Land customer for over 10 years, recently visited our Middle East Service Centre in Abu Dhabi to witness the testing of their pyrometers. The centre, which opened in June 2020, is an OEM (original equipment manufacturer)-approved high-temperature infrared calibration and service centre for the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) countries.

We operate the center in partnership with our OEM AMETEK LAND and offer inspection, calibration, certification, and repair of all manufacturers’ infrared pyrometers, scanners, and thermal imagers across a wide temperature range.

Չ€œWe have had an overwhelming response from customers since we opened the facility earlier this year,Չ€ said Venkatasamy, Regional Business Development and Service Manager for AMETEK Land. Չ€œWe were very pleased to welcome AGIS to witness the testing of their pyrometers, as it gives customers added peace of mind that their equipment is being maintained and calibrated to the highest accuracy, to enable them to optimise quality and production.Չ€

For over 10 years, AGIS, the largest flat steel rolling and hot-dip galvanizing complex in the GCC region, has used our System 4 fixed spot non-contact pyrometers to deliver a complete temperature measurement capability for their plant. Specifically used on the continuous annealing lines. (CAL) and continuous galvanizing lines (CGL), it is paramount that each pyrometer is measuring to the highest accuracy to ensure the best quality product is delivered to its customers. Until the recent opening of the new Middle East Service Centre, all AGIS calibration services were undertaken at the AMETEK Land facility in India, and now can be completed locally in AIMS Abu Dhabi Facility.

Amit Sabharwal, Head-Electrical Maintenance at AGIS, said: Չ€œIt was great to be invited to watch the calibration of our pyrometers at AIMS/AMETEK LandՉ€™s new facility and learn more about the processes firsthand. We were also given a tour of the centre and were introduced to their calibration team. We discussed how the calibration process is carried out and why it is important to operate to exacting standards to enable the accurate reporting of measurement uncertainties. It was a very insightful visit!Չ€

The Centre uses standards traceable to our laboratory in the United Kingdom which is accredited against the international standard ISO / IEC 17025:2017 (general requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories) to offer a comprehensive preventative maintenance and calibration service.

The calibration of instruments is essential to improve practical temperature measurement performance. The service centre provides calibration across an extensive temperature range, from 50Թ՛C to 1600Թ՛C, for AMETEK Land and other manufacturersՉ€™ instrumentation. With repeated calibrations, a history of instrument stability can be built, providing a useful insight into long term performance.

At our AIMS Middle Eastern facility, we provide a full-service offering that encompasses inspection, calibration, certification, and repair of infrared temperature measurement instruments and is operated by fully trained technicians using approved and traceable certification equipment.

We recommend annual service and calibration adjustment of temperature measurement equipment through our AMECare service, which provides proactive maintenance for customers. AMECare service contracts allow customers to optimise the performance and maximise uptime of their temperature measurement instrumentation.
